Wood House 76 is, for me, as much an archival project as it is an outlet for publishing new and updated findings and perspectives.
As I work through old folders and files to get some “ducks in a row,” I am finding saved correspondence that captures my thinking on a topic particularly well and that I anticipate wanting or needing to reference in the future and/or is potentially instructive to readers, new and old.
The email below is one such instance. Because I am no longer in touch with the recipients, I have removed both of their names. I retained the names of other prominent COVID figures who were mentioned.

I don’t want to bother Drs Wodarg or Binder,* but FYI, based on Bergamo Hospital data and data from NYC, Chicago, and Mass., I believe cities (or some cities) began the pandemic by testing everyone in the hospital first.

I first mentioned this idea in an email to Ram Duriseti (Stanford) in late 2022, as a result of looking closely at NYC data. He was doubtful that occurred, but I’ve become more sure that this occurred since first offering that possibility. That doesn’t make me correct, of course, and I have never worked in a hospital…however, I think growing up in a restaurant family and working in restaurants & schools helps me think more systematically and mechanistically about “turnover” in ways that seem to escape other analysts.
Also, I watched Martin [Kulldorff] in that discussion with Wodarg today and am very frustrated by his explanation of NYC and Stockholm. I’ve highlighted Stockholm previously, in contradiction to people saying that Sweden was right, etc. Stockholm’s place of death data shows that they followed the protocol too – as we would expect from cities, where the most hospitals, care homes, and people are.
You DO NOT need a whole country.

The “Hospitals First” Hypothesis captured in my message is one I had written and spoken on already by this point: that some cities, at least, began the pandemic by testing virtually everyone already in hospital, thereby rapidly converting the existing hospital population into “COVID” patients.
The pattern doesn’t need have occurred across an entire country; higher concentrations of hospitals, nursing homes, and people live in cities. I had learned from closely examining and posting about U.S. and state-level place-of-death data in 2020+ that where people die reveals much about how people could and could not have died.
For those and other reasons, beginning in mid-2022 or so, my analysis start to shift toward specific cities and locations besides Chicago and New York.
As I said to the email recipients, Sweden was not “right”. Official Stockholm data alone show the democide very clearly. (Jonathan Engler wrote a piece related to this topic later, in November 2024, which can be read here.)
The threads I appended to the email are no longer public because I removed the associated account but are captured in the article “Pandemic Casualty Event 101”.
*I don’t remember why I wanted Thomas Binder to see the threads. Possibly because of something he was saying on Twitter at the time.
